NUPHAR. (Water Lilies) Unlike the Nymphaea lilies these tolerate slowly moving water and light shade. Also their deep gold cup shaped flowers are held several inches above the water and their seed pods, from which they get their common name, resemble old fashioned brandy bottles. The leaves are more pointed and glistening green . - lutea. The giant of them all! The one for very big ponds lakes or canals which it has colonised very successfully.
