August September

There is very little to do in the pond at this time except to enjoy it! A bit of deadheading to stop irises seeding and the removal of odd dead leaves is really all that is needed. Though many books say plant Irises in the Autumn we have found that this is inadvisable for the aquatic varieties. They wont be able to get established before the cold weather comes and their roots may rot during the Winter. Be patient and wait until Spring; planted then they will leap away quickly. We really do recommend that no aquatics be planted after the end of August.

Another point we would like to stress is that if you are planning or thinking of digging out a pond PLEASE give thought to the plants you want to grow and where you want to place them BEFORE you begin. We often have customers who have spent a great deal of money on construction only to find that they have no ledges for marginal plants, the ledges are too small or are at the wrong depth. Frequently too the pond itself is too shallow for growing Water Lilies. This is such a sadness. We are very happy to give advice about all this.

SORRY, THE NURSERY IS NOW FINALLY CLOSED BUT THE GEARDENS WILL STILL BE OPEN BY APPOINTMENT
